  Celebrating our community partners! 🎉 We joined many of our Peninsula-area community partners at Christopher Newport University to mark two years of Sentara grants to community non-profits in the region.Over the past two years, we've awarded $3.6 million to more than 80 Peninsula community organizations. This includes funding for a mental health crisis center and scholarships for minority healthcare students. Small businesses received micro-grants to launch vital initiatives that will empower local change.Our recent celebration encouraged organizations to network with other local organizations and work together for a stronger community. “Sticks in a bundle are unbreakable,” said Iris Lundy, Sentara Vice President of Health Equity, quoting an African proverb. “Hospitals are just a fraction of what we need.   Survivors charm and inspire at the Sentara Stroke Symposium.A sellout crowd of physicians, nurses, and therapists at the Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg listened to inspiring stories of stroke survivors and their relationships with Sentara.“Remember,” said the moderator, a longtime neurology nurse, “under all the medical charts are people and families.”Survivors and care teams credit music and traditional therapy, caregiver support, and survivor support groups with improving stroke recovery. #SentaraCares #StrokeRecovery #ThankYouSurvivors

  Helping kids grow up healthy! We teamed up with the Children's Museum of Virginia to expand the museum's BodyWorks exhibit. This interactive playground gets kids moving, learning about their bodies, and making healthy choices.“We’re making an early start to help kids avoid obesity, diabetes, and hypertension later in life,” said Iris Lundy, Vice President of Health Equity for Sentara. “It’s an investment in our mission to improve health every day.”A $700,000 gift from Sentara helped make this possible. It is the largest donation to an exhibit since the museum opened in 1980, and it's an investment in our future! #HealthyKids #SentaraCares

  Sentara Senior Vice President and Regional President Kapua Conley joined a recent hearing of the House Committee on Veteran's Affairs testifying on Sentara's efforts to prevent workplace violence, in part of a larger conversation on how Virginia can further support and protect law enforcement and others in our communities."From my perspective, security is both a feeling and a reality," Conley said. "And they are not the same. Making our employees and patients feel safe is just as important as keeping them safe...   Partnering with faith leaders to fight high blood pressure in Black communities. 🩺 One year after being awarded a $3.4 million grant to study hypertension in underserved communities, we've partnered with 10 Black churches in Hampton Roads to study blood pressure management. This effort is important because hypertension disproportionately affects Black communities and is a leading cause of strokes, heart attacks, and early deaths.Participants in this study will be enrolled in a national clinical trial to track their blood pressure, meet with healthcare professionals, and receive support to address social factors impacting health.Read here: https://bit.ly/4dU13eX to learn more about this study. #SentaraCares #HealthEquity #HighBloodPressure
