Now there are only a half-dozen, as much of the business has shifted to discount giants like Home Depot and Scotty's. But the discount stores did not discourage Mr.

Hara, he said in an interview in 1991. "We take time with every customer and give good advice and order in anything we don't have," he said. In 1972, Mr. Hara bought Maskell's interest in the store, but Maskell continued to come in. He kept a desk at the store.

Mr. Hara was a founding member of First Missionary Church and was chairman of the church board for more than 15 years, his son said. He also served as district treasurer for the Florida Missionary Church organization. As a parent and treasurer, he was active in the Northeast High School Band Boosters. Besides his son, survivors include his wife of 45 years, Annabelle; a daughter, Donna Grabill, St.
